Over 100 Million Dollars in free money is passed by in the form of non-used co-op funds every year.
Have you ever felt too engulfed in “day-to-day” operations to
adequately keep track of your available co-op funds? Many of our
clients were surprised to learn that their unused co-op dollars are
often handed back to their distributors. Even worse, imagine if your
funds are handed to your competitors!
When you use Media Infocus’ professional media placement services, not
only are you more likely to get lower rates, but we’ll handle your
co-op free of charge.* We are often even able to negotiate
participation from vendors who do not have formal co-op programs in
place.
What is a Co-op fund?
Manufacturers have a vested interest in supporting you in your advertising efforts. In order to be more competitive, most manufacturers offer a co-op fund that reimburses you on a percentage of advertising dollars spent promoting their specific products and services.
Am I entitled to Co-op?
Each industry is different. Some manufacturers have specified programs while others are by negotiations. It is possible that you might even be able to negotiate funds through distributors. Either way, the best way is make some calls and ask. We can do the leg work for you free of charge with our standard, percentage based advertising agency agreement.
How much co-op can I get?
Typical programs are based on 1.5% of your wholesale purchases with the manufacturer for the year. The funds are typically reimbursed to you within 90 days at an average rate of 50% of the media schedule (or up to the limitations of what is in your co-op account).
Some manufacturers do not have a specified program, and it's always best to negotiate. With some distributors, one "man's" left behind co-op fund can easily become another's advertising budget. We once negotiated $10,000 in up front money before a dollar was spent with a new distributor.
